Smoke Detector Recycling
Uni-Vert Tec Inc. is the only company that recycles smoke detectors in Canada. The radioactive material is Americium-241, an unsealed heavy metal that remains radioactive thousands of years. Electronic components are separated and recycled. Radioactive sources are disposed of at the only official Canadian long term storage site of CNL.
Our goal is to keep the volume of Dangerous Goods in the Environment as low as reasonably achievable (ALARA). The recycling price is kept as low as possible and is based mainly on the disposal site fee, the number of detectors and the source activity.
